Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, grandmother, and her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. As a child she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford began to be fascinated by acting as a teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a week she decided it wasn't for her. Ford applied instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered a position on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however, by that time she was already making her television debut in an episode from 1991 of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Also, she was a regular performer in the theatre, eventually joining the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate was recognized for her stand-up comedy and has been added to her portfolio in the year 1996.
