Christina Haack was conceived in Anaheim, California. Her first job after school was that of an estate agent. It was here that she met Tarek. The couple ran a prosperous business, until 2008, in which real estate developers or house flippers as well as other people went broke. Tarek El Moussa almost wiped out in the 2008 financial crisis. Following their move from a home that was costing them $6,000 a year to an apartment costing $700, they were close to losing everything. The economy and their businesses gradually rebounded. HGTV & Rise to Fame Tarek asked an acquaintance to create a HGTV audition video in the year 2011 that featured the duo of him as well as Christina flipping over a home. Pie Town Productions executive received this tape. These executives were fascinated by Christina and Tarek's love story. In 2012, the couple signed an agreement with HGTV.
